Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Drift.

Getting started

Drift is a ride-hailing platform that connects riders with verified drivers across Tanzania for safe, reliable, and fairly priced transportation.

Download the Drift app, create an account, enter your destination, choose a ride type, and confirm. A nearby verified driver will be matched to you.

Drift currently operates in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Mbeya, and Zanzibar, with more cities coming soon.

Yes. Creating a free account lets us match you with drivers, process payments, and keep a record of your trips for safety and support.

Safety & trust

Yes. All drivers go through an identity and document verification process before activation. Every trip is recorded through the platform and support is available at any time.

Drivers submit their national ID, driving licence, and vehicle documents. We review and approve each application before the driver can accept trips.

Tap the safety button in the app to share your trip with a trusted contact or contact emergency services directly. You can also end the trip at any time.

Go to your trip history in the app, select the trip, and tap 'Report an issue'. For urgent matters, contact our support team directly or call local emergency services.

Rides & pricing

Fares are based on distance, time, and ride type. You see the full upfront price before you confirm, with no surge surprises.

We accept mobile money (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money) and cash. More payment options are being added.

If a driver cancels you are automatically re-matched. If a driver is taking unusually long, you can cancel at no charge and request again.

Open the trip in your history and tap 'Lost item'. We'll contact the driver on your behalf to help coordinate recovery.

Becoming a driver

Sign up on the Drift driver portal or through the app, submit your documents, and complete our onboarding process. Approved drivers can start accepting trips immediately.

You need a valid national ID, a valid driving licence, vehicle registration, and a roadworthy vehicle. Full requirements are listed on our Driver Requirements page.

Earnings are transferred to your registered mobile money account. Payouts are processed daily: earnings from trips completed before midnight are available the following morning.

Currently each driver account is linked to one vehicle. Contact driver support if you need to update your registered vehicle.
