Delete your Drift account

A step-by-step guide to permanently deleting your rider or driver account, in the app.

Applies to
Drift Rider app & Drift Driver app

01Before you begin

You can delete your Drift account directly from the app, with no need to contact support. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and personal data from Drift.

This action cannot be undone. Some records, such as completed trips, payment records, and information required by law or for fraud prevention, may be retained for the required retention period. See “What happens after you request deletion” below.

02How to delete your account

The same flow applies whether you're deleting a rider account in the Drift app or a driver account in the Drift Driver app.

  1. Open Profile → About → Delete Account

In the app, go to Profile, then About, and tap Delete Account.

  2. Tell us why you're leaving (optional)

Pick a reason: for example, you no longer use Drift, found a better alternative, have privacy concerns, or created another account. This helps us improve, but it isn't required.

  3. Verify with a one-time code

We send a 6-digit code by SMS to your registered phone number. Enter it to confirm it's really you. This stops someone else from deleting your account if they have temporary access to your phone.

  4. Confirm deletion

Review the final warning: your profile, saved places, and personal information will be deleted, and certain records may be retained where required by law. Tap Delete Account to proceed, or Keep Account to cancel.

  5. Account deletion requested

Your account is deactivated immediately and your request is queued. Your data is deleted according to Drift's retention policy, except where we must retain specific records for legal or regulatory reasons.

03What happens after you request deletion

Requesting deletion deactivates your account right away: you're immediately logged out and can no longer be matched to trips. Your profile, saved places, and personal data are then deleted.

Some information cannot be deleted immediately. This includes trip and payment records needed for tax, accounting, or dispute resolution, and information needed to investigate fraud, safety incidents, or legal claims.

Retention periods

These records are kept only as long as required by Tanzanian law or to resolve an open issue, then deleted or anonymised, consistent with the retention rules in our Privacy Policy.

Need help instead of deleting?

If you're having a problem rather than wanting to leave for good (a payment issue, a trip dispute, or a technical bug), our team can usually help without you losing your account or trip history. Reach out via Help & Support before deleting.
